The Southwest Harbor Police Department is staffed by Chief David Chapais,  four full-time police officers,  five reserve police officers, also four full-time dispatchers and five part-time dispatchers.

Southwest Harbor was incorporated in 1905. It is situated on the island of Mount Desert on the Coast Maine.  Southwest Harbor is located about 20 miles South of Ellsworth, Maine and has a year-round population of approximately 2,000.
