The Southwest Harbor Police Department has a staff of five full-time officers including the Chief and four dispatchers along with six reserve officers, five part-time dispatchers and a seasonal traffic officer. The Police Department, when hiring, seeks self motivated individuals with demonstrated leadership capabilities, experience in all aspects of police work, including investigative responsibilities, and a proven record of positive public relations.

The Town of Southwest Harbor offers a competitive wage and benefit package based on the present Union contract.

Full-Time Police Officer

The Town of Southwest Harbor currently has an opening for a full-time police officer.
Applicants must be 21 years old, a high school graduate or equivalent, have no criminal record, no significant motor vehicle record, and successfully completed the Law Enforcement Pre-Service Course. Preference for applicants who are Certified Maine Criminal Justice Academy graduates with current police certification. The Town offers a competitive wage and benefit package.
